Three ways to turn a bank statement into usable data — and where each one actually stops.

CPA Statements, DocuClipper, and TraceEntry all claim to save you from typing transactions by hand. They don't all start from the same place. Here's exactly what each one does, what it costs at real volumes, and where the gaps are.

Estimate assumes ~25 transactions per statement and applies only once data is already in spreadsheet form.

The gap that matters most: where you're actually starting from.

Most bookkeepers don't get a tidy CSV from clients — they get a PDF, or a scan, or a phone photo of a statement. TraceEntry is a genuinely good categorizer, but it can't open that file. You'd need a separate extraction step before it can do anything. CPA Statements and DocuClipper both start at the PDF — the actual starting point for most client work.
